How to crochet - corner to corner stitch

Hello my lovelies! Welcome back to my channel. It's so nice to get to the end of our 18 part beginner lessons. If you're new to crochet I recommend you check out our beginner tutorials first, you can find them here

The stitch I have for you today is not exactly considered beginner level. It's a very pretty textured stitch - the crochet Corner To Corner stitch or the C2C as it's otherwise known. Once you learn this stitch it's gonna become one of your favourites, trust me!

Before we get started, there are few things you need to keep in mind. As the pattern name suggests, it's worked from one corner to another corner, so it basically means that we will be working our way across DIAGONALLY... There are 3 parts to this...
Part A - Increasing rows - increasing on both sides
Part B - Even rows - increase on one side & decrease on one side
Part C - Decreasing rows - decreasing on both sides.

And warning!!! It can just very clumsy and weird at times. When you turn your work and are not sure which is top and bottom... please remember, the tail end from the beginning of the work will always be at the bottom. So you can use this trick to orient yor work

Let's begin, you'll see what I meant when we start working.

Part A - Increaasing rows

Begin with a chain 6

Skip the first 3 chs, into the 4th ch from the hook, make one dc

You will have 2 chs left, make one dc into each of them.

We've just made the first C2C block in row 1, [ 1 block = ch 3 + 3 dc]

Let's go to row 2, now ch 6 & turn

Make a block just as we di in row 1, skip 3 chs, make 1 dc in each of the next 3 chs.

You should end up with a weird looking piece like the pic above!!!

Insert your hook into the ch 3 space in the block from row 1.

And slip stitch

We've finished 1 block in row 2, now ch 3, and make 3 dcs into the same ch 3 space where we just slip stitched into.

Keep making sure that the tail is at the bottom when you are holding your work. Let's make row 3.

Ch 6, turn, skip first 3 chs, make 1 dc into each of the next 3 chains.

*Slip stitch into the next ch 3 space, make 3 dc into the same ch 3 space*. Repeat what's in between the * till you reach the end of the row.

At the end of row 3, we have 3 blocks. I'm sure you've noticed by now... row 1 has 1 block, row 2 has 2 blocks, row 3 has 3 blocks... So this is how it will be in your increasing rows, the no. of blocks in each row keeps increasing.

I'm gonna make 1 more  increasing row before we move on to part B. Just repeat row 3.

Ch 6, turn, skip first 3 chs, make 1 dc into each of the next 3 chains. *Slip stitch into the next ch 3 space, make 3 dc into the same ch 3 space*. Repeat what's in between the * till you reach the end of the row.

So here at the end of 4 rows, I have 4 blocks. You can keep working this way as long as you want to, depending on how broad you want your piece to measure.  Now let's move on to the next part.

Part B - Even rows

So long in the increasing rows, we were increasing on both sides. Now we are going to decrease on one side & continue increasing on the other side.

To begin the next row, just turn your work.

We are going to begin the next row with a decrease, slip stitch into each dc & then into the ch 3 space.

We are now going to rotate our work to the right...

Now, *ch 3, 3 dc into the ch 3 space, slip stitch into the next ch 3 space.* till you slip stitch into the last ch 3 space.

This is how your work should look now. Since we decreased at the beginning of this row, we will increase at this end. Ch 3, make 3 dc into the ch 3 space.

When you count the number of blocks, you should have the same number you had in your previous row.  Let's make the next row. The hook is now on the increasing side, so we will begin the row with an increase and end with a decrease.

Ch 6, skip first 3 chs, make 1 dc into each of the next 3 chs.

*ch 3, make 3 dc into the ch 3 space, slip stitch into the next ch 3 space* till you slip stitch into the very last ch 3 space.

Since we are decreasing on this side, we will stop this row and turn. So this is how we work the even rows, increasing on one side and decreasing on the other side. You can check your stitches by counting and making sure your even rows all have the same number of blocks. You can keep repeating the even rows as long as yo wish, deoends on how long you want the piece to measure. Let's go on to part C next.

Part C - Decreasing Rows.

In the decreasing rows, we will begin and end each row with a decrease, so the number of blocks will keep decreasing.

First let's turn and slip stitch into each dc and the ch 3 space.

Rotate your work to the right, ch 3 & make 3 dc into the same ch 3 space we slip stitched into. Continue making one block in each ch 3 space till you slip stitch into the very last ch 3 space.

So we will have 1 block lesser than the previous row. Repeat the previous row again.

I have only 2 blocks in this row. I'm going to make one more decrease row. I will ave only 1 block in my very last row.

So this is how we make the C2C crochet stitch. Yo can check out the video tutorials for more info.
