How to work in the round - Part 1

Hello my lovelies! Welcome back to my blog. In today's lesson, we'll learn how to work in the round. If you haven't seen our previous lessons, you can find them here.

Now about making a circle... there are two ways to brgin a circle. One is with a chain loop & the next is using a magic circle. And there are two ways to work in the round... One is by finishing each round with a slip stitch [sl st] or the next method is by working in continuous rounds.

In today's lesson, we will learn how to begin a circle with a chain loop, and finish the rows by joining with a sliip stitch. I'll be using DC's in this tutorial.

Step 1: Chain 5

Step 2: Insert hook into the first chain.

Step 3: make a slip stitch forming a ring.

Step 4: Since we'll be using DC's, ch 3 [if you remember our DC lesson, to start a new row we ch 3]

Step 5: We need to make 12 dc into the ring, since the ch 3 replaces the first stitch, we only have to make 11 dc into the ring.

Step 6: Insert hook into the top of the ch 3 we made at the beinning of the round and make a slip stitch.

Step 7: Now let's do round 2. Since we want a flat circle, we nee to increase in the next round. So in R2, we will make an increase in each stitch. Forst make a ch 3.

Step 8: The ch 3 is our first dc, we need to make one more dc in the same place for an increase. So insert your hook into the top of the ch3 from the previous round and make a dc.

Step 9: Now make 2 dc in each stitch.

Step 10: Slip stitch into the top of the ch 3 we made in the beginning of the round.

Step 11: Let's begin R3, in this round, we'll make an increase in every alternate stitch. Make a ch 3 first.

Step 12: That is the first stitch, increase in the next stitch.

Step 13: Let's do that again. 1 dc in next stitch, dc increase in the next stitch.

Step 14: Keep making an increase in every alternate stitch all around. And make a slip stitch into the top of the ch 3.

Step 15: For R4, we'll work this way, 1 dc, 1 dc, dc increase. [here the ch 3 is the first dc]

Step 16: Keep making 1 dc, 1 dc, dc increase all around and slip stitch into the top of the chain 3.

Let's go through what we've done so far...

Chain 5, slip stitch into first chain.
R1 - 12 dc into ring                 [12 dc]
R2 - (dc inc) x 12                    [24 dc]
R3 - (1dc, dc inc) x 12            [36 dc]
R4 - (1 dc, 1 dc, dc inc) x 12  [48 dc]

I'm sure you can see the pattern here,

Firstly, we are adding 12 dc in each round.

Secondly, we are moving the increase in each round.
R1 was 12 dc into ring
R2 was inc in every stitch
R3 was inc in every 2nd stitch
R4 was inc in every 3rd stitch

This formula keeps repeating as laong as you want a flat circle. R5 will be inc in every 4th stitch, & R6 will be inc in every 5th stitch.

Keep practicing these stitches, I will see you in the next lesson where we will go through another method of working in the round. You can find my other tutorials here.
