Double Crochet

In today's lesson, we will learn how to make the Double Crochet or the Dc. If you havn't been through the previous lessons, you can find them here.

I have with me a ch 11. The turning chain for dc is a ch3, so we will skip the first 3 chains.

Step 1 ~ yo

Step 2 ~ insert hook into the 4th chain from the hook

Step 3 ~ yo and pull up a loop.

You should have 3 loops on the hook now.

Step 4 ~ yo

Step 5 ~ draw through 2 loops

Step 6 ~ yo

Step 7 ~ draw through 2 loops.

This is how we make the dc. I have worked till the end of this row.

To begin a new row, ch 3 and turn.

While working dc, the turning chain replaces the first stitch. So we will skip the very first stitch, and start working from the second stitch. Keep working this row, and I will show you how to complete this row.

I have now reached the end of row 2. Can you see the ch 3 we skipped in the beginning, since the turning chain replaces a stitch, at end of the row too it becomes a stitch. That means, we need to make a dc on top of the ch 3.

Yo and insert the hook into the toop of the ch3.

And finsh the dc. This is how we complete a row while making dc's.
