DC Increase & Decrease

In this lesson, we will see how to make the dc increase & decrease. If you havn't been through the previous lessons, you can find them here.

I am beginning with 9 dcs (includes the ch 3 in the beginning)

I have made my turning chain [ch 3]. Let us see how to make the increase first.

Normally, we do not work in the very first stitch, as the turning chain replaces the first stitch. Since we are increasing here, we will work in that stitch. The turning chain will be the first stitch, and the dc is the second stitch. So we have just increased in the first stitch.

The increase is quite straightforward. We need to work multiple stitches in the same place.

Now let us go on to the decrease. A decrease is making a single stitch out of multiple stitches.

Step 1 ~ yo

Step 2 ~ insert hook into the next stitch and pull up a loop.

Step 3 ~ yo, draw through 2 loops. Do not complete the dc.

Step 4 ~ yo, insert hook into next stitch & pull up a loop.

Step 5 ~ yo, draw through 2 loops. You should now have 3 loops on the hook.

Step 6 ~ yo and draw through all 3 loops. This is how the dc decrease is made.

Keep practicing these stitches, I will see you in the next lesson where we will learn to make the Front Post Stitches. You can find my other tutorials here.
