Hdc increase and decrease

In this lesson, we will learn how to make the Half Double Crochet or the Hdc. If you havn't been through the previous lessons, you can find them here.

I have here with me 7 hdcs, and I've made a ch 2 and turned.

Let us see how to make the increase first. The increase is nothing but making multiple stitches in the same stitch.

Step 1~ make 1 hdc like a normal stitch.

Step 2 ~ insteaf of inserting your hook into the next stitch, insert your hook in the same stitch and make a second hdc.

That's how simple the increase is. Now let us go on to making the decrease. It is worked a little differently. The decrease is nothing but making a single stitch out of multiple stitches.

I will be making the decrease over the next 2 stitches.

Step 1 ~ yo

Step 2 ~ insert hook into next stitch and yo

Step 3 ~ pull up a loop. You will now have 3 loops on the hook.

Step 4 ~ yo

Step 5 ~ insert hook into next stitch and yo

Step 6 ~ pull up a loop. You should now have 5 loops on the hook.

Step 7 ~ yo, and pull through all 5 loops.

Initially this would be a little clumsy. But I assure you'll get it as you keep practicing. What we just made is a hdc 2 together or hdc2tog.

For now keep practicing these stitches, I will see you in the next lesson where we will learn to make the Double Crochet. You can find my other tutorials here.
